HEAT PUMPS TRANSFER HEAT FROM ONE LOCATION TO ANOTHER USING A SMALL AMOUNT OF ENGERY. IT CAN BE USED FOR BOTH HEATING AND COOLING PURPOSES.
DURING THE HEATING MODE, A HEAT PUMP EXTRACTS HEAT FROM OUTSIDE AIR, GROUND OR WATER SOURCE AND TRANSFERS IT INDOORS TO WARM THE SPACE. IN THE COOLING MODE IT REVERSES THE PROCESS BY REMOVING THE HEAT FROM INDOORS AND RELEASING IT OUTSIDE, THUS COOLING THE SPACE.
HEAT PUMPS ARE CONCIDERED ENERGY-EFFICIENT BECAUSE THE MOVE HEAT RATHER THAN GENERATE IT THROUGH COMBUSTION, AS IN TRADITIONAL HEATING SYSTEMS. THEY CAN PROVIDE SIGNIFICAT ENERGY SAVINGS COMPARED TO ELECTRIC RESISTANCE HEATERS OR FOSSIL FUEL-BASED SYSTEMS. HEAT PUMPS ARE USED IN RESIDENIAL, COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIALS SITUATIONS FOR SPACE HEATING, WATER HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING.
